My current nails

My nails for the past few days.
It looks a bit boho, just the way I like it.
Although my nail design skills are never improving. Nyaha.

Also tried a new app on my phone called decopic. :)

How I Make our Tonkatsu

Tonkatsu (breaded pork) is one of my favorite dishes, especially with the sauce. And nothing beats eat-all you-can-without-worrying-about-the-price-homemade tonkatsu for me! Haha!
I am not sure about other countries, but here in Japan, most people usually brush the flour to the pork (on a flour tray), dip the pork to the beated eggs (on a different tray), then press on the bread crumbs (on again, another different tray!) to make the usual tonkatsu. But our small kitchen would turn into a clatter and a mess by doing that! Talk about too much dishwashing! Ugh.

So here's what I do.

  • First, cut the 400-500g pork medallion and sprinkle salt and pepper then set aside.
  • Here's the difference.. Mix the beated (one) egg, two tbsp of flour, and salt on a bowl to make a batter.
  • Prepare the bread crumbs into a flat tray.
  • Put the pork to the bowl batter (2.) and make sure the pork is covered fully with the batter.
  • Add the pork into the bread crumbs. (I used fine crumbs in the picture because I needed one on a different dish, but I actually prefer a more coarse one.)
  • Heat oil for about 180 degrees. (Try to put a bit of the crumbs and if it went straight fast up from the bottom, then that is your cue.)
  • Fry pork until golden brown.
*do not make too much batter. And prepare a lot of bread crumbs to the tray.

 I hope that helps! :)

Polyvore

I used to have an old account on Polyvore way back when I was still pregnant, but I wasn't very interested back then.. I am not sure why. Now lately, I am enjoying making making these sets and so I am sharing it here.

orange + white + dungaree + leather (inspired by my actual outfit)

safari (I wanted to try printed leggings)

blushing date (what I want to wear on a dinner date)

pinks + lilacs + gray (my outfit for work or shopping)

summer-y boho (imagined what I wanted to wear this summer)

When I want to buy a piece of clothing,  a bag, shoe, or jewelry online that I am not sure would match my wardrobes, I also try it on Polyvore. It is like mixing and matching without the need of buying anything! :P

chirbit!

I was surfing the net, and found this site that could record your voice, and share it on other networking sites like facebook and twitter, etc! So I played and tried to record my voice singing a stanza on First Love by Utada Hikaru. Yep, so there goes my voice! Hahahaha! :P
Check this out on Chirbit

Yellow and Green

I am not actually a fan of these two colors. I never liked yellow nor green but I like yellow green. Haha.
I think this nail polish colors look like yellow green, don't you think?

This actually are my nails last week. There was a lot on my mind, I forgot to post it. I currently have no nail polish on today. I might try a different desgin tomorrow though. ;)

Oh, and as for how I did it, it's my usual tape and dotting pen. Hehe.

Thought of the day

"People see what they only want to see."

That is the quote that is in my thoughts nowadays. I personally think that this quote is true. Our minds unconciously mold what we see and think into something that is more convenient for us. Something that would not hurt our own mind and ego. It is our protection barrier for our own little world.
Now don't try denying that you are not one of them. It is actually my greatest pet peeve, I must say. People who wouldn't want to admit to theirselves what is lacking, or what they need to improve about theirselves, because it is just easier to not see and ignore. People who does not want anyone's opinion and advice to let them see their own faults and mistakes. But then, at the back of your mind, you very well know the truth. You just can't admit it at that moment because of pride.

I myself, will not try to deny. I also have my stubborn moments but this does not mean that I stop myself from seeing my own faults. My surroundings (people and environment) help me contemplate and enlighten my mind. Seriously, I try to see every moment as a message for improvement. Sometimes I see it fast, and sometimes it takes me time.

That said, It is just how it is for all of us at some point, maybe. We are all mere humans anyway..
I guess some people need more time than others to let theirselves see what they really need to see.. And the secret is to help that person (or just let time help them!) be enlightened without judging the other.

Bow. :p

Ethnic Print Tunic

It's been awhile since my last What I Wore blog post, but this time,
I'm making it "How I Wore" post.

On the left is a forest girl type outfit. I paired it with my tulle skirt. It is kind of tricky to wear something loose (with a full long bottom) without looking frumpy and like a dag, but the easiest answer is to wear a vertical and horizonal line. Thus the belt and cardigan. It would make you look somewhat more slender.
On the right is a more urban ethnic girl looking outfit. I paired it with denim jeans and folded it to give the illusion of me somewhat looking a bit more taller. This is also paired with the same crochet cardigan as the left one.

I made my hair into a dutch braid and wore a laced-up boots for the forest girl outfit to give a more rugged, forest-y feel to the look.
And a double side french braid plus a platform espadrille loafer to finish up the trendy urban girl look.

Hanami in Kyoto

Sharing photos from our first Kyoto trip last saturday for our family's annual hanami.

The city is not very stroller friendly since the road has too many slopes and the main source of transportation there are buses. We were not able to go inside the Kiyomizu temple and some other tourist spots due to that. Over all, the city is so beautiful and I want to go back there but not when the daughter is still on her stollers! ;P

Close the Window, Calm the Light

I'm sorry it might be a little too much of a highschool girl thing, but a song came to my mind and I thought to post it here so I wouldn't have to search for the lyrics everytime I remember.

I am singing for myself! ;p

Outside the rain begins and it may never end
So cry no more on the shore
A dream will take us out to sea
Forever more forever more
Close your eyes and dream
And and you can be with me
'Neath the waves through the caves of hours
Long forgotten now
We're all alone
We're all alone

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
Learn how to pretend

Once a story's told
It can't help but grow old
Roses do
Lovers too
So cast your seasons to the wind
And hold me dear
Oh, hold me dear

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
All's forgotten now
We're all alone
oh-oh, we're all alone

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
Owe it to the wind, my love

DIY nail stickers

Saw this DIY nail sticker photo on pinterest and decided to try this too.

Photo: thebeautydepartment.com

And this is the outcome

As I was doing it, I remembered I wasn't good with scissors and cannot barely make a straight line (strips) so I made squares instead. Then I added the dots using my dotting pen. I think this design would be cute during the holidays too changing the colors into more festive ones like gold, silver, red and green. :)
Hopefully, I could cut nice straight strips next time so I could make a border stripes nail design that I've been wanting to!

Lilac and Yellow

Another try on my dotting pens!

Painted all my nails first with lilac, let it dry completely, put a tape (I used scrapbooking tape) to cover the lower half, painted the tips with yellow, wait for it to dry, then put the dots (you could actually use bobby pins or toothpicks).

Now make sure to really let dry completely before doing the next step. That is where I messed up the first (and second) time. Lol.

I still have another design I want to try so Im posting it next!

Let's do the polka!

I saw a post on youtube and on a blog I've landed on, on how to do polkadot nails.. It was easy I thought I'd do it myself! So I bought a cheap dotting pen on the internet and some colorful nail polish.

The dotting pen costs about 1000yen and canmake nail polish are just about 380yen. I like canmake makeups among the cheap drugstore brands here in Japan since it IS one of the cheapest yet it does it's job better than some more high priced brands in the market. The brush and color is good and it also dries quickly. One of the cheap drugstore (nail polish) brand I won't ever buy again is Majolica Majorca fyi.

and here is the finished product. I can't take a more clearer photo of my nails using my phone so that is my most clear image taken.
Verdict: I LIKE IT! It is very easy to make and you can make other dot designs using the pen so yea, I am happy with my buy and with my somewhat nicely done nails. Yay! ;)
